We chose The Shires after reading their reviews on Checkatrade. We agreed a date for them to come and give us a quote. They arrived promptly at the agreed time.

We discussed all the work that we wanted to be done. The quote was to paint the kitchen Including all the kitchen unit doors. We also wanted the hall,stairs and landing painted, including all woodwork.

We were very pleased with the quote and agreed a date to start the work.They were very professional on all aspects of work needed to be complete our decorating. Their knowledge of paint was second to none. I will definitely use them again

I have recently bought a 2 bedroom bungalow. I have not moved in yet but wanted to get some important jobs done before doing so. One important job is the decorating and in particular the front living room, and the two bedrooms. I put the job out to tender, there were a number of interested parties, however, The Shires stood out as being the most suitable. When they came to look at the job, they had all the necessary information, tools, paint colour charts, etc.

They new what they were doing, they understood the effects of colours. How to use them in the different rooms to take advantage of natural light, artificial light, warmth, cool and most important, how to effect the ambiance that I was after in each particular room.

They effected this with precision and great skill. Much time was taken in preperation and cleaning. The correct paint types primers, undercoates, top coats etc, were appliead in text book fashion. They used good quality brands and it shows in the end result. So yes I am very pleased and would have no hesitation in recommending them to anyone who is in need of a First Class job.

We have already been scoping out 4 new jobs with The Shires, that is how pleased I am with them.

Jesse Petherick - Owner

Hello! My name is Jesse Petherick. I am the Director of The Shires Professional Decorating Ltd.

My passion for design & decorating actually came from studying art at school. Growing up, my dad owned a building company and it was looking like I was going down the path of being a tradesmen like him. At the weekend I would work for him starting from the very bottom. I enjoyed working in constrution and seeing both the first and second fix trades come in and turn a brick & mortor into someones castle. Over time I observed and practice several trades before I finally attended college & studied decorating.

Decorating for me was my first choice, Why? Because decorating can be unforgiving, you have to practice & maintain certain standards everyday you work. I noticed that lot of the hard work from other trades are hidden or at least not considered everyday, I often saw decorators come in and really change the mood and look, I will always remember the look on some of my dads clients faces when the finishing trade (decorators) finished and the satisfaction they must of have knowing that their clients would see their workmanship every day.

Once I finished my college course and got my decorating qulification I carried working in my dads building company, learning other trades, working with other decorators, learning business and becoming a project/design manager. I have had the privilege of working at some of the countries most prestiogous buildings such as the Savoy hotel & the European union in central London. I eventually Moved to Staffordshire where I created my own company, formerly known as Decoforce Painting & Decorating Ltd. My work attracted clientele from all over the West Midlands, Staffordshire, Shropshire, Cheshire & Derbyshire. Because of this vast area I worked in I decided to rebrand & rename the business to something that was more fitting but still unique locally, The Shires Professional Decorating Ltd.

Outside of the business I love spending time with my wife and son, we go walking, hiking across the UK using maps etc. I enjoy reading and sci fi novels are my favourite. I love to learn and I am currently learning Makaton & British Sign Language. I am also in the process of building a charity with other decorators & industry influencers across the UK, we are wanting to decorate children and young peoples with terminal or life changing conditions rooms for free. We are still early days with this but a a great cause still.

Emma Hudson - Client Consultant

Hello, My name is Emma Hudson.

I started working for The Shires when it was first started out as Decoforce Painting & Decorating Ltd back in the summer of 2023. Although I have worked on site delivering the high standards that has shaped and help grow The Shires now, I have now taken more of an administration role within the company. I am trained in colour theory & interior design so I do attend consultations with potiential clients. I really value the customer serivice ethos that The Shires focus on. I spent 11 years prior as an area manager for one of the largest clothes & home retail companies in the UK. a different change of industry yes, but believe it or not there are also many transferable skills between the two. I am an advocate for females in the trade and I strongly encourage any young woman to consider such a rewarding career.

Outside of work I love to spend time with my little boy and socialising with friends and family. I love traveling around the UK walking & hiking and seeing the natural beauty.
